How can I buy an online motorbike insurance when renting a motorbike in the Philippines?

Am I covered by travel insurance if I’m riding a motorbike or scooter?

Yup, hop on that moped or motorcycle with confidence, we’ve got you covered. To US citizens just remember you need to be properly licensed for whatever you’re riding and you always need to comply with local laws and the fine print of the plans, like the part about how you can’t be under the influence of alcohol or drugs and still expect to be covered if you crash. Also, we don’t offer collision damage waiver for motorbikes or motorcycles.

How it works

To be covered when riding a motorbike or moped, simply add ‘motorbiking’ (includes scooters) to the list of your sports and activities when getting your quote. It’s that simple! It’s important to do this before you buy the policy as you won’t be able to make changes after your policy is issued.

How to be covered:

You must take all the usual safety precautions including:

-Be legally allowed to ride in the country you are in.
-Obey the local road rules.
-Wear a helmet if it is required by law.

What’s covered

If you are injured in an accident while riding a motorcycle or moped, we’ll cover:

-Evacuation if it’s urgent and medically necessary.
-Emergency medical expenses for treatment at the hospital or by a doctor at the local medical center.
-Repatriation home if you’re seriously ill or injured and unable to continue your trip.
-If you are in need of a medical evacuation or repatriation, you or someone with you MUST contact the insurer’s Emergency Assistance Team immediately. The Emergency Assistance team can arrange and pre-approve all expenses. Search and rescue is also not covered unless approved by the insurer, ihi Bupa.

Who pays for medical treatment (and by this we mean either you pay upfront and claim later or we pay) depends on what’s happened to you and the necessary treatment required. Also be aware that any medical claim submitted will have a policy excess/co-pay deducted per person, per claimable event.

Cases the insurance not cover

The policy isn’t designed to cover everything. Cases that the insurance does not cover:

-Racing or riding competitively

-Theft or damage to the motorcycle

-If you ride in areas where the following events are occurring, your cover may be limited: war, invasion, acts of a foreign enemy, hostilities (whether war has been declared or not), civil war, terrorist acts, rebellion, revolution, insurrection, civil commotion, military or usurped power, martial law, riots or the act of any lawfully constituted authority, or army, naval or air service operations (whether war has been declared or not)

-Riding in an area which is marked or is known to be ‘closed’, ‘out of bounds’ or ‘unsafe’ or where you knowingly expose yourself to any needless risks or act illegally.

-Legal liability for injury or property damage you cause to a third party, caused by you, whilst riding a motorcycle (defined as a motor vehicle in the product guide)-

-Anything else that’s listed in the exclusions on the policy.

EUROPE & ASIA

If you want to go for a ride on a motorbike or moped while on your trip, there’s cover available under both the Standard Plan and the Explorer Plan.

UK

There’s cover under the policy if you want to go for a ride on a motorbike or moped (scooter) while abroad.  Restrictions apply depending on what type of riding you’ll be doing eg on-road, off-road, trail biking etc and the size of the bike/engine so you must sure to choose the right adventure sports coverage depending on what size and type of bike you’ll ride so you’re covered should anything go wrong.

Please be aware that this policy can NOT cover you for motorbike touring or when using a motorbike as your main mode of transport while traveling abroad. This can’t be added, even for an additional premium.

AUSTRALIA

If you want to ride a motorbike or moped while overseas, whether just for a day here and there or as your main mode of transport, there’s cover under the policy if you’re properly licensed to ride.

How do I add this to my policy?

Simply add ‘motorbike riding’ or ‘scooter riding’ to the list of your sports and activities when getting your quote. It’s that simple! Restrictions apply depending on what type of riding you’ll be doing, so be aware of this by reading the policy wording (Section 8) so you’re covered if something goes wrong.

You must add all the sports and activities you plan to try on your trip when you buy your policy. You won’t be able to make changes after your policy is issued.

Note: If you are riding a motorbike and you have an accident, call the police and make an accidental report in order to claim insurance anywhere in the world.
